Charlie Davies finishes second in 2011 MLS Comeback Player of the Year voting

Charlie Davies streaks down the field for D.C. United.

Major League Soccer today announced LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham as the MLS Comeback Player of the Year. D.C. United's Charlie Davies finished second in voting.

David Beckham recovered from a torn Achilles tendon in 2010. Beckham, who turned 36 in May, went six months between competitive games while rehabilitating from the notoriously challenging injury, which can take eight months or more to overcome.

Charlie Davies recovered from life-threating injuries sustained during a car accident on October 13, 2009 while on U.S. National Team duty in Washington, DC. The 2011 MLS season was Davies first full season of first-team action since the accident. The 25-year-old forward scored 11 goals in 26 league appearances. He was the second leading goal scorer on D.C. United (behind MLS Golden Boot winner Dwayne De Rosario) and tied for sixth overall in MLS.
