United Reads, presented by TD Bank, returns for fall 2011

D.C. United andits charitable arm, United for D.C., announced today the schedule for UnitedReads during the fall of 2011. United Reads is a signature program created toencourage elementary school students in the greater Metropolitan area to fallin love with reading and to promote the importance of healthy lifestyles.United Reads is currently in its ninth year thanks to the generous support ofpresenting partner T.D. Bank and program sponsors Volkswagen and GallupGovernment. The program will continue to partner with the Heart of AmericaFoundation to provide new books to every student during D.C. United playervisits to each school. 


Thefall season is highlighted by a host of player appearances at participatingschools in addition to a collaboration with the United Way National CapitalArea to host joint assemblies at three schools. The joint assemblies will feature the United Reads program with UnitedWay’s Fun.Fly.Fit program to reinforce United for D.C.’s goal of encouragingstudents to maintain an active mind and active body. 


Ateach visit D.C. United players will lead interactive games in activities withthe students as well as share their personal experiences and successes with anemphasis on the importance of reading and staying healthy. Players will alsosign autographs, take photos, and distribute two new books to each student tocontinue developing their personal libraries.
