WAGS First Weekend Report

WAGS

The first weekend of WAGS (Washington Area Girls' Soccer League) games kicked off this past weekend, with dozens of teams from around the area competing for an early advantage on the divisional scoreboard. Even after only two days of play, clear early leaders emerged in many of the age groups, while other divisions will remain battles until the final games in June.

High School Divisions

In High School Division 1, McLean Fusion lead the way after defeating MSC Arsenal 5-2 on Sunday. The Fusion is the only team with three points on the board, as the only other game this weekend between the LMVS Patriots and the CRFT Wolves ended in a 1-1 tie.

Division 2 saw much more action this weekend, with several teams clinching wins. DSC Dragons, VIST Fury, Chantilly FC Virginia Courage and DCST Heat all defeated their opponents. However, no team could win two in a row this weekend, leaving the leader board wide open.

Loudoun leads the way

In the U14 and U12 Division 1 brackets, Loudoun Soccer has two teams at the top. The Loudoun 96G Red squad defeated DCST Metros Blue 2-0 on Sunday, which leaves them on top of the division based on goal differential. CYA Chaos also has three points in the same division.

Loudoun 98G Red is one of the only teams in the entire league to have won on both Saturday and Sunday. The reigning Jefferson Cup champs easily defeated BETH Academy 3-0 on Saturday, then blanked Reston United 3-0 on Sunday.

Other notable performances

The first pre-divisional program games kicked off in the U14 age group. After the first weekend of play, seven teams posted points on the board, with DSC Spirit claiming four points after tying with Loudoun 96G White 1-1 on Saturday, then defeating ARL Athletic White 1-0 on Sunday.

FREE Fury also had double wins this weekend in U13 division 2 play. They defeated the BETH 1860 squad on Saturday 3-0, then came back round on Sunday and won 1-0 against BRYC 97 Elite. In U14 division 4 play, Reston Real Force defeated SMU Rockets 4-3, then won against WWSC Lady Wolves 4-1, putting the Force on top of the bracket.

FRED FC Frederick Royals also won two, defeating CALV Mudslingers 5-0, and Herndon Magic 1-0 in U17 division 5 play. VIST BC United won two games in U16 division 5, defeating SAC United 2-1, and FPYC Rebels Blue 2-0.
