United Builds: Volunteering at Food & Friends

Chris Pontius at Food & Friends volunteer event

After an intense morning of training, midfielder Chris Pontius and goalkeeper Joe Willis joined D.C. United front office staff in volunteering at Food & Friends on Wednesday afternoon. The players and staff helped Food & Friends prepare hundreds of meals for their clients.

D.C. UNITED WINS THE CHALLENGE

Always up for a friendly competition, the volunteers from the Black-and-Red galdly accepted Food & Friends' head chefs' challenge to prepare over 300 meals in two hours. While Chris Pontius' team prepared lunch bags, Joe Willis' group assisted with preparing pantry bags and dinner menu items. The two teams from D.C. United easily surpased the challenge by assembling over 400 meals to assist the Food & Friends organization in their daily 3,000 meal preparations.

UNITED BUILDS

Through the United Builds program, D.C. United has partnered with Food & Friends on different initiatives over the years. Most recently, D.C. United staff prepared pantry bags to supply clients with groceries and assisting with their Slice of Life Thanksgiving Pie fundraiser. Food & Friends is a Washington-based non-profit organization that cares for men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS, Cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing and delivering specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutritional counseling.
