D.C. United announces 2011 bar partners

Washington, D.C. – D.C. United today announced the club has officially partnered with 15 bars in DC and Virginia for the duration of the 2011 campaign. BlackFinn, Fado, The Pug and Babylon Futbol Café return for a second consecutive year after partnering with United in 2010.

“Our bar partnership program continues to be a key initiative for D.C. United in 2011,” said Director of Marketing Communications Kyle Sheldon. “We are thrilled that these 15 bars have made a commitment to D.C. United and to the growth of the sport in Washington. Soccer is truly a communal activity and we hope our bar events will draw together the already tight-knit soccer community.”

D.C. United’s first bar event of the year will take place Saturday, March 26 at BlackFinn DC (1620 I St. NW), as supporters gather for a special Doubleheader Viewing Party, presented by Comcast SportsNet. The event begins at 4pm ET, with D.C. United vs. New England Revolution kicking off at 4:30pm, followed by the U.S. Men’s National Team vs. Argentina at 7pm ET. The party will include an appearance by a D.C. United player, halftime drawings for field level seats to D.C. United-LA Galaxy on Sat., April 9, and a 2011 3rd kit.

Of the club’s 2011 partners, three bars are brand new and either opened last week or will open in the very near future. Touchdown on U St. opened its doors officially this last Monday to much fanfare, while Lou’s City Bar in Columbia Heights made its debut last Thursday. Additionally, The Queen Vic and Kahn’s Bar & Grill – both on H St.NE – may open their doors for the first time this week.

Each of the 15 bars that has partnered with United has made a commitment to show every televised game played by the Black-and-Red during the 2011 season. Throughout the season, D.C. United will be hosting away-game viewing parties, fundraising events and player appearances at various bar partners. For the most up-to-date information on all bar events, visit dcunited.com/bars.
