MLS 2010 QUOTESHEET
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2010 – D.C. UNITED 1, COLORADO RAPIDS 0

D.C United Interim Assistant Coach Chad Ashton

On the win...
"I thought we played very well. We did a lot of things we talked about- we managed the game real well. We felt like if we could stay in the game early and not give up too many chances at some point in time we would start to get our chances and it kind of played out that way. We dodged a bullet here and there early and stayed focused and to get a goal right before the half is tough on teams, it mentally makes things difficult on the other team and gives your team a lift going into halftime. But, it’s a tough place to play. We just did a good job of the entire group staying on the same page in the second half of taking care of the ball and possession. Picking and choosing when we would go forward and taking our time and slowing the game down and frustrate them a little bit. Our guys have fought hard for 3, 4, 5 weeks and we don’t seem to get rewarded so to see their faces and to see them get rewarded for their hard work is satisfying."

On the team’s defensive play and getting the shutout...
The back line was very tuned in. I thought Jed Zayner came in and did a great job not only organizing the back just with his mouth but continuing to break up plays for the other team but you could say that about all four of them. They were all tuned in and helped each other. When there was any breakdown someone was there to cover it and that stuff is so valuable as we move forward and start to play with some confidence that we know we can finish games out and win games 1-0."

On the importance of the win to the club...
We are going to enjoy it. It’s been a while coming that I feel like we have deserved a win here and there and just haven’t found a way to finish games off or concentrate the entire 90 minutes. We are a beat up club, we definitely don’t have the numbers we would like to have this time of the year and this is a credit to everyone. They continue to do their jobs everyday and continue to work hard and hopefully we can continue this over the next three weeks and get a few more results."

Danny Allsopp

On the win...
"We came here pretty determined to get a result and I think we showed that on the field. I think we frustrated them. I think they ran out of ideas and we deserved the three points."

On his goal...
"Obviously Andy (Najar) did a good job getting down on the right and I try to keep putting myself in good positions. Andy hit the ball going across and the goalie put a palm on it and thankfully it fell to me."

On the team using this win as a catalyst for the rest of the season...
"I think even though we have lost a couple lately, we have had the lead four times now in a row which is a real improvement from earlier in the season. I think the signs have been good lately and hopefully we can build upon that."

Jed Zayner

On the win...
"I think this week coach had stressed about going out there and playing for each other and our team is only as good as the guy next to us and we can’t let each other down. This week we got our legs back under us and we felt great coming into Colorado and getting a clean sheet. You don’t let in any goals and you at least get a point so that is what we have been focusing on."

On facing Conor Casey, Omar Cummings and Mac Kandji...
"They have some great pairing and Dejan (Jakovic) was awesome tonight. An unbelievable game. And Jordon (Graye) and Devon (McTavish) did great. And Kurt (Morsink) was tucking in great. I think we just had to be focused on every moment."

On moving back to center back...
"It’s comfortable for me. I have been playing there since all through college at center back. I definitely like it there, so I had some fun tonight."

On the team using this win as a catalyst for the rest of the season...
"I was telling everyone last week that a diamond takes a little bit to make in the rough so we have to go through these grinding times to become a diamond. I think are starting to push those out more and more getting those goals. We just have to get use to not letting in goals and soon become a diamond and one of the better teams in this league."
