Washington, D.C. (June 29, 2010) − D.C. United announced today the club has released midfielder Christian Castillo. The 25-year-old made ten League appearances for the Black-and-Red during the 2010 season, starting eight of those matches. In total, the Salvadoran winger registered 691 minutes on the pitch with zero goals scored in MLS play.

“We would like to thank Christian for his time at D.C. United, and we wish him the best of luck in his playing career,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper.

United acquired Castillo on December 18, 2009 from Mexican Second Division side Leon. During his sole season with the Black-and-Red, Castillo failed to find consistency in a United shirt. Aside from his 10 League appearances, Castillo earned two starts in the U.S. Open Cup against FC Dallas on April 28, and Real Salt Lake on June 2. The midfielder recorded 138 minutes in these two fixtures, scoring his only goal of the season in the Dallas match.
