This Wednesday, United for D.C. will auction off an authentic AC Milan jersey signed by the entire team - including members of the Rossoneri not in the nation's capital (like U.S. National Team defender Oguchi Onyewu).
Not only will you be bidding on a special piece of sporting memorabilia, you will also help hundreds of DC-area youth. "All proceeds from the jersey auction will be used to support United for D.C. and the work we do with underserved and disadvantaged youth of the greater D.C. area," explained United for D.C.'s Executive Director Kate Larned McPhail.
"In particular, it will fund our after school soccer program for inner city youth and our reading program. These programs provide opportunities and education for at-risk youth and promote the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Over 500 at-risk youth participate in the United Soccer Club program and over 1,500 individuals in Wards 1, 6 and 8 participate in the United Reads program."
So please arrive early on Wednesday and bid on the jersey or make a donation to United for D.C. - it is an important part of D.C. United's mission and we're just as proud of it as we are of our championships and trophies.
