Washington, D.C. (January 21, 2010) − D.C. United announced today the club has signed Floribert N’Galula. The 22-year old has played both as a holding midfielder and defender, most recently playing with Dutch Eredivisie club Rotterdam. N’Galula also spent five years with Manchester United, playing with the youth and reserve sides and earning two first team appearances.
“We are very excited about the pedigree Flo brings to D.C. United,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper. “Flo impressed during his post-season trial with us and we feel he has the physical tools and versatility to be very successful in our League. We look forward to his contributions.”
Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, N’Galula started his career with Anderlecht (Belgium) at 12-years old, playing with the youth teams from 1999-2003. He was then spotted by Manchester United and joined the Premiership club’s youth system in June of 2003. He signed a full contract with the club in late 2004 and was part of the United reserves team that won the Manchester Senior Cup that year. While with the English team, he also won the Barclays FA Premier Reserve League Shield in 2005. In 2006, N’Galula was on the substitute's bench on two occasions for the first team. He spent the bulk of 2006 and 2007 competing on the reserve side, before being released. N’Galula signed with Danish club FC Randers and played in two games before being sidelined by a knee injury. In 2008, after impressing during a trial, the midfielder/defender signed with Sparta Rotterdam and played in 12 games for the club’s reserves.
N’Galula has been a regular for the Belgium National Team at all youth levels, playing with the U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19 and U-21 squads.
