We caught up with D.C. United's newest signing this afternoon. Here's what he had to say..
How do you feel coming to D.C. United?
I’m very happy. I’d heard rumors before and wanted to come play over there. Now that I have the opportunity I’m happy and satisfied with the deal I have with them. So now I’m focusing on this next season with them, trying to do my best and do what I know how to do, play soccer.
You’ve been wanting to come to D.C. for a while now?
Yes, before when I was with the national team, there were rumors people were telling me but nothing ever happened and I was left wanting to go play over there. But we couldn’t work it out, I came to play in Mexico and now the doors have finally opened for me to go there and I’m so excited. I just want to join the team already.
You played at RFK Stadium with the El Salvador National Team last year, how do you remember the Salvadoran fans in Washington?
I think that’s what is motivating me the most, apart from the team being the most successful in the League. The fans over there, there are a lot of my countrymen so I think I’m going to feel like I’m right at home. When we went to that Stadium to play with the national team, it’s a very beautiful stadium. The fans are very supportive. I think I’m going to feel like I’m at home so I want to do well.
How do you see yourself contributing to the team?
I just have to keep doing what I’ve been doing, working hard. Work, try to be in shape and the coach will decide how I can best contribute and I’ll give it my all. I always like to play as a left-sided midfielder and bring a lot of offense.
What do you know about D.C. United?
I’ve heard it’s one of the best teams, the one with the most championships. I was following it a few years back when Eliseo Quintanilla was playing, who is a great player from my country. So I’m very happy to be a part of this team now and for all that this team has won. For me, it’s a privilege to be playing there so I’m excited.
Do you have a message for the Salvadoran fans in D.C.?
Yes, I think it goes without saying; the fans always come out to support the team. Now more than ever I’ll need their support. I will give them my all and leave everything on the field. I will try to do my best and hopefully this will be D.C.’s season.
