D.C. United signs Tiyi Shipalane

Washington, D.C. (December 15, 2009) – D.C. United today announced the club has signed midfielder Tiyi Shipalane. The 23-year old joined United in August on loan from the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL-2) and made three appearances (one start) for the Black-and-Red. Per League and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Tiyi is a player who showed a lot of potential during his short time with us this past season,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper. “We're excited to have him with the team from the beginning of the 2010 season and look forward to watching him develop.”

After impressing club officials during United’s U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match, while playing for Harrisburg, Shipalane signed with the Black-and-Red on August 25.. While he did not see action in League play, Shipalane made his presence felt in every match he entered. The South Africa native appeared in three CONCACAF Champions League games, making his only start for the club in a 3-0 win over CD Marathon on September 24.

Broadcasting and P.A. Request: When speaking of the organization, please refer to the team as either “D.C. United” or “United,” but not “the D.C. United” or “the United.” We appreciate your cooperation.
