"Last night was a fantastic night at RFK Stadium. While we fell short of our goal of winning a 13th trophy, we are proud of the tremendous effort our team and our fans brought to the stadium. Our fans demonstrated once again that, when it comes to passion, loyalty and enthusiasm, they are second to none.
Our congratulations go to Seattle Sounders FC for a great effort in becoming U.S. Open Cup champions in their first year of Major League Soccer. Our hat is off to their players, their coaches, their ownership and, most of all, their fans. We will now refocus on CONCACAF Champions League, the hunt for playoffs and winning MLS Cup."
