Acceptance speech

Wow.  What can I say?  I mean.. wow.  Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine we'd be nominated for a Best of U.S. Soccer award.  Yes, you dream about these things at night.  You hope against hope.  But, it always seems such a lofty dream.  We really don't expect to win, so we're going to give an acceptance speech while we have the chance.  We have so many people to thank.

We'd like to thank Stephen H. Goff of Soccer Insider for pushing us to be the best we can be day in and day out.  His citing of sources who do not want to be named is simply awe-inspiring.  You had me at hello.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Shawn Francis at The Offside Rules - someday I hope my writing can be as crass and comical as yours.  They may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom, Shawn.

And to the other candidates - it's just such an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as you.  It's your work and your dedication that brings me to tears each and every day.  You make me want to be a better man.

We owe so much to the players who put up with us constantly being in their faces and asking "will you do something really funny right now, please?"  You can be my wingmen anytime.

To U.S. Soccer for recognizing a visionary blog - thank you, thank you, thank you.  Your ability to churn out work on 27differentblogsisincredible.  Never let go of that promise.  Never let go.

I'd like to thank myself, Cris Cruz, Boris Flores and Doug Hicks for being some of the best writers in the history of blogging.  Our ability to take a mundane event and turn it into literary genius is uplifting, heartening and just downright incredible.  Thank you.  You're welcome.  Nobody puts baby in a corner.

And to you, the readers... I'm going to.. try.. not to cry.  You.  Complete.  Me.  I mean that.  You do.

Yes, we've reached the pinnacle.  Yes, we're at the top of our game.  But, in no way does this mean we're resting on our laurels.  We're taking this nomination and using it as a catalyst to push beyond the best blogging in the history of U.S. Soccer to bring you what will be the best website in the history of the interwebs.. a newly designed dcunited.com.  We can only hope we can match the pure brilliance, intellect, innovation, artistic mastery and originality that is this very blog.

We're so happy to be nominated, we don't even care if you vote for us (seriously, though, will you? I have a bonus built into my contract if we win).
