Nick DeLeon, D.C. United's first pick (7th overall) in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft is widely considered one of the most entertaining and promising young players in Major League Soccer.
The 22-year-old midfielder's ability to make an impact on a game was immediately on display in his first appearance for the Black-and-Red, as he scored just 12 minutes into his professional debut against the reigning MLS Cup Champions LA Galaxy. From there, DeLeon became a regular in D.C. United's midfield, starting 23 of 26 games in which he has played. With an impressive five goals and four assists on the season, he is on the verge of making history as D.C. United's highest scoring rookie.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"He brings a real quality to our offense in terms of thinking a couple steps ahead. It's a maturity level that I feel like a lot of rookies aren't at yet."
— Chad Ashton, D.C. United Assistant Coach
"DeLeon, who was energetic off the ball and confident and unpredictable on it, had Dallas unhinged and chasing all evening."
— Brian Straus, Sporting News (following 3/30/12 match)
"I think we're pretty fortunate that he came our way. During the college year last year, he was the guy we wanted. I saw him play one game and there was no doubt in my mind."
— Ben Olsen, D.C. United Head Coach
