The Columbus Crew defeated D.C. United 4-1 in MLS Reserve League action on Sunday morning at the Crew Training Center at Obetz. Olman Vargas, Aaron Schoenfeld, Eric Gehrig and Aaron Horton all scored for the Crew while United’s lone goal came from Long Tan. Crew defender Nemanja Vukovic netted three assists, Emilio Renteria tallied one and Danny Cruz assisted on Tan’s goal.
It was a high-scoring affair at RFK Stadium as D.C. United’s reserve squad topped Toronto’s reserves 4-3 Saturday afternoon. Stephen King, Maicon Santos, Chris Pontius and Hamdi Salihi got on the score sheet for the home side in a shootout. DC moves to 1-0-1 in Reserve League play.
BOYDS, Md. – Rookie Antoine Hoppenot played hero on Tuesday night, scoring in the first frame of extra time to send the Philadelphia Union past D.C. United 2-1 at the Maryland SoccerPlex and into the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup.
D.C. United had to put in an extra shift to avoid upset to the third-division Richmond Kickers in US Open Cup play on Tuesday, but Marcelo Saragosa fired home in the 107th minute at Richmond City Stadium to give the Black-and-Red a 2-1 win over their nearest rivals.
