Emilio eleva al D.C. Unit

WASHINGTON, D.C.

D.C. United outlasts the

WASHINGTON, DC -- D.C. United nabbed their first win of the season with a close-run 1-0 result over Houston Dynamo at RFK Stadium on Saturday night, powered by a 47th-minute goal from Luciano Emilio and secured by a late rearguard action following Jaime Moreno's 71st-minute ejection.

It wasn't particularly pretty, as both sides labored without fluency for long stretches. But United will not be the least bit concerned with style points as they secured a welcome three points following two consecutive draws in which they fumbled away second-half leads.

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Despite a commanding first-half performance, D.C. United had to share the points with the Chicago Fire in their 2009 home opener on Saturday night, drawing 1-1 in wet, foggy conditions at RFK Stadium. Rallying impressively after halftime, the visitors used a 53rd-minute goal from Patrick Nyarko to cancel out Luciano Emilio’s well-taken opener in front of 15,895 fans.

CARSON, Calif. -- You could hear it in D.C. United coach Tom Soehn's voice. You could feel it afterward in the locker room.

The fact that United went on the road and played the LA Galaxy to a 2-2 tie on Sunday at The Home Depot Center -- despite holding a two-goal lead with 10 minutes to play -- didn't sit well with either the coach or his players.

"I think we come away a little disappointed," Soehn said. "I thought we deserved a little more. Especially in the opening games of these seasons, there's turmoil."
