Jerry Palacios scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 83rd minute, when he got on the inside of D.C. defender Greg Janicki, took a touch off of Glen Brown's flicked header and tapped the ball past goalkeeper Josh Wicks and inside the far post.

TORONTO -- D.C. United dropped a crucial three points in the Eastern Conference playoff race, handed a crushing 2-0 decision by rivals Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field.

The win vaulted Toronto two points ahead of D.C. into third place with nine games remaining in the regular season for United.

Toronto FC opened the scoring in the 30th minute when unmarked Canadian international midfielder Dwayne De Rosario rushed into the D.C. penalty area and connected with a Sam Cronin cross at the top of the 6-yard box.

"Having to fight back and come back from three goals ... is not easy to do," said United head coach Tom Soehn. "I credit the guys for fighting through and making sure the effort was there, but the execution wasn't there on the day."

WASHINGTON -- D.C. United were stymied on home soil in the opening match of their CONCACAF Champions League campaign on Tuesday night, as El Salvador's CD L.A. Firpo dug out a 1-1 draw at RFK Stadium in the first match of their two-leg qualifier.

An early miscue handed the Salvadorans a precious away goal and while D.C. captain Jaime Moreno pulled back a leveler from the penalty spot before halftime, Firpo kept United on the back foot, defending stoutly in the second half and nearly stealing a win on several late counterattacks.
