Sébastian Le Toux scored a hat trick and the
Philadelphia Union brought soccer back to the City of Brotherly Love in style
on Saturday. The expansion side held off D.C. United 3-2 in front of a crowd of
34,870 in their home debut at Lincoln Financial Field.

Philly struck first with early pressure from the wings. In the
fifth minute, Roger Torres swung the ball in towards the near post for Le Toux,
who calmly slotted it home for the 1-0 lead.

A cancer survivor, D.C. United’s head coach has overcome a
number of daunting obstacles in his personal and professional life, and he’s
not about to change that approach, even in the wake of a dispiriting 3-2
setback to Philadelphia Union on Saturday night, his team’s third straight loss
of the young season.

On the return of their former head coach, Curt Onalfo, the Kansas City Wizards put together a dominating display for a 4-0 victory over visiting D.C. United. On a soggy night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, the Wizards scored twice in each half with newcomer Ryan Smith scoring on his debut and serving as catalyst on the first two goals.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Needing a win to keep their MLS Cup Playoffs chance alive, D.C. United allowed a Claudio Lopez penalty kick in second-half stoppage time to force a 2-2 draw in front of 10,385 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

With the result, D.C. United finished the regular season on 40 points (9-8-13) and their playoff chances depend on other playoff-vying teams to also tie [update: Seattle's 2-1 win over Dallas officially eliminated United from the playoffs]. Kansas City finished its season 8-13-9 (33 points).
