D.C. United has announced that Homegrown goalkeeper Bill Hamid has been selected to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for the international friendly vs. Ecuador on October 10 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. Hamid will fly to Houston, Texas, after the match and be available for selection for United’s match against the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, Oct. 12.

The 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, which will qualify three teams for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, will be played in four host cities in the United States: Chicago, Kansas City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Mayor Vincent C. Gray along with the DowntownDC BID, Events DC, D.C. United, DC Water, Akridge, Pepco and CBS 94.7 will host a Viewing Party of the USA vs. Belgium World Cup match on a large screen on Freedom Plaza. The event is FREE and open to the public. Blankets and lawn chairs are permitted. No alcohol is permitted at Freedom Plaza.

Tommy McFly and Kelly Collis from the Tommy Show on 94.7 Fresh FM will serve as emcees for the pre-game kickoff.

DC Water will host water stations throughout the event.

On Wednesday, June 16, I woke up antsy and nervous. The U.S. Men’s National Team would match up against Ghana later that day. Ghana: a team who has had our number for two World Cups now. Ghana: who dealt the final blow in 2006, and knocked us out once again in the round of 16 in 2010. Ghana: our kryptonite.
