Houston, we have a roster.
We are just a day away from learning this year's MLS All-Star First XI ahead of the summer classic that will see the league's best take on the mighty Manchester United on July 28 in Houston.
The stars chosen to represent MLS will be revealed LIVE on Tuesday, July 13, in an exclusive announcement on ESPNews at 3:40 p.m. ET.
The First XI was selected by a combined vote of fans, league coaches and GMs, players, and media. The full 23-man All-Star roster will be revealed on Friday.
D.C. United did not notch a shutout in 2010 league play until their 11th game of the season, so it’s understandable that they would welcome their second clean sheet of the year in the form of Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Eastern Conference pack leaders New York at atmospheric Red Bull Arena.
D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH CURT ONALFO
On Dejan Jakovic up against Juan Pablo Angel:
"Angel is such a great force. If you just watch his runs off the ball, they're outstanding. It was all about dealing with him in the back, and our guys did a great job with that. It wasn't just Dejan (Jakovic), it was Julius (James), and also Jordan (Graye). Angel is smart enough to find areas on the field where he can be dangerous."
Points, pride and payback will be prime motivators for D.C. United in Saturday’s road match against the New York Red Bulls, with the visitors hoping to continue their climb up the standings while avenging a 2-0 home loss to their rivals on May 1.
But for some members of the United starting lineup, there’s also the considerable matter of asserting some job security before the international transfer window opens on Thursday. That’s when new signings Branko Boskovic and Pablo Hernandez become available to head coach Curt Onalfo, and everything could change.

WASHINGTON – Progress in the US Open Cup has offered D.C. United a welcome dose of success amidst a difficult league campaign this year. But the squad had to move on quickly from Wednesday night’s USOC round-of-16 victory over the Richmond Kickers, training early the next morning before jetting off to the West Coast in advance of Saturday’s meeting with the San Jose Earthquakes.
And the first of back-to-back road matches should reveal plenty about United’s midsummer prospects.
