Olsen reflective at end of interim manager stint

Coach proud of effort, pride in play, but admits need to improve
Olsen reflects on season

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Saturday night, midway through the final postgame press conference of his interim stint as D.C. United head coach, Ben Olsen was asked whether the team had improved under his watch.

His answer gave a hint of the personal evolution brought on by his unscheduled stint in the lead dog’s role.

“I don’t know, that’s not for me to gauge,” Olsen said. Then he paused and reconsidered.

“Maybe it is for me to gauge.”

Monday Postgame: Galaxy, Wondo, and fond farewells

Breaking down MLS Week 30 and the race for the MLS Cup
Monday Postgame

So much for the calm before the storm.

With playoff thunderheads massing on the horizon, MLS staged a surprisingly turbulent final week of the regular season. There were two hat tricks, a stunning charge in the Golden Boot race, goals from two MLS legends in the final games of their careers, and a resolution of the Supporters’ Shield and playoff picture in the very last game of the year.

So let’s put on our Wellingtons and jump in the puddles.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — So many things went right for D.C, United on Saturday night
against Toronto FC. A large, affectionate crowd filled RFK Stadium on a
pleasant fall evening, Santino Quaranta’s 2nd-minute strike provided the perfect
start to the match and a cleverly-earned penalty kick brought one last goal for
Jaime Moreno.

And they still lost 3-2.

It certainly wasn’t the way they wanted to say goodbye to
their legendary captain, but United’s harsh, troubling season culminated with
an appropriate performance against TFC.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Interim coach Nick Dasovic told his
Toronto FC players to remember New York.

Those on last year’s squad know all too
well what happened in last season’s finale. On a rainy night in Giants Stadium,
TFC suffered a 5-0 loss to the league worst New York Red Bulls. The loss denied
the Reds their first ever playoff berth.
