WASHINGTON — Although D.C. United are barely a third into the season, it’s already time for some revenge.
Saturday night’s meeting with the Colorado Rapids (7:30 pm ET, Direct Kick, MatchDay Live) offers a chance for DC to redeem themselves after what occurred back on April 3, when Ben Olsen’s squad traveled to Commerce City, Colo., and lost 4-1 against the defending MLS Cup champions.
Inter de Virginia, 2010 champions of the Manassas Universal League, hoisted the La Super Copa VI trophy on Saturday, May 7, claiming the $5,000 prize and rights to claim themselves as the best amateur squad in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area. The squad from Virginia bested Municipal Limeno, champions of the Maryland International Soccer League, in penalty kicks at RFK Stadium.
WASHINGTON — Just as D.C. United midfielder Branko Boskovic was finding his feet in MLS, a torn ACL appears to have ended his season.
Boskovic, scheduled for surgery on his knee this Thursday, joins a growing list of attackers forced to the sidelines because of serious injuries just two months into the MLS season.
According to head coach Chad Ashton, four to six months of recovery time is typically the norm for ACL tears. As a result, the team has to proceed assuming Boskovic won’t be available for the rest of the season.
WASHINGTON — Having conceded eight goals in two games, questions about the D.C. United back line were once again surfacing ahead last week’s home stand. Defensive lapses that had been viral during 2010’s struggles were cropping up again in heavy losses.
Potentially making matters worse, Jed Zayner and Marc Burch, the expected starters at the outside back spots, were sidelined with hamstring injuries. In search of options ahead of last Wednesday’s clash against Seattle Sounders FC, coach Ben Olsen turned to rookie Perry Kitchen and reserve Daniel Woolard to help lift the defense.
