In all, 13 rookies made their MLS debuts over this weekend, including some of the top prospects selected in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
Stealing the headlines as far as first-year talents go was Sporting Kansas City forward C.J. Sapong. The forward out of James Madison opened his MLS scoring account against Chivas USA in less than two minutes after pouncing on Ben Zemanski's poor clearance.
WASHINGTON – The Perry Kitchen hype machine has been in full effect ever since the US youth international inked a Generation Adidas deal following his freshman season at the University of Akron last year.
And after being picked by D.C. United in the SuperDraft, the 19-year-old has received rave reviews from United’s coaching staff. On Saturday, Kitchen finally got the chance to show what the fuss was about – and passed the test with flying colors.

Twenty-seven goals in 10 games. Sparkling debuts from two of the league’s new designated players. Terrific stadium atmospheres, even in cities where the weather refused to cooperate.
There was also a rising star who won a game with his first career goal, a wide-open, six-goal game in the new Canada derby, and a powerful display from the defending champs.
