NEW YORK – It is shaping up to be a busy offseason for MLS
clubs with an unprecedented five player drafts taking place between the end of
the MLS season and January.
The league on Tuesday unveiled dates and details of the new
Re-Entry Draft, which will make its debut in 2010 as part of the new Collective
Bargaining Agreement between MLS and the MLS Players Union.
Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena might have taken the words out of everyone’s mouths when he said that the 2010 conference semifinals were “the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Certainly, the four teams left should be prepared for anything, and if the MLS Cup Playoffs have not done enough to convince the conference championship hosts to be on upset alert, history will.

Veteran Kevin Stott earned the 2010 adidas Referee of the Year honor. The 43-year-old officiated in 17 games this season, dishing out 62 yellow cards and just two red cards — the lowest tally for referees that worked 15 games or more. He whistled an average 22.2 fouls per game.
