WASHINGTON — A weekend without an MLS match usually means a weekend of rest. But for D.C. United, it’s business as usual as they prepare to face recently crowned Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam.
It’s a challenge to which DC players are looking forward.
“These games are fun,” defender Dejan Jakovic said. “It’s always fun to play a big team like that. I don’t know what the lineup’s going to be like, but I always look forward to those games.”

WASHINGTON — While D.C. United still have a game on the schedule this weekend, the friendly nature of Sunday’s matchup with newly crowned Dutch champions Ajax provides time to be introspective about the season so far.
“I would say it’s about where we expected,” DC assistant Chad Ashton said. “If you’d asked us before the beginning of the season if we would be sitting us in this spot, we probably would have taken it. We’re right there — striking distance. At the same time, we’re probably not that far from the bottom, either.”
WASHINGTON — On a roster sprinkled with new additions, one of D.C. United’s most familiar faces has found himself adjusting to a much different role.
Longtime veteran Santino Quaranta, who led the team in minutes played last year, now finds himself starting most games from the bench. In nine appearances this season, only two have come as starts.
It’s taken some time for him to adjust to the new role.
D.C. United's mascot, Talon, will be giving away a pair of tickets each day over the next three days somewhere in the Washington, DC metro area. Here's how you can win:
