Striker Charlie Davies and captain Dax McCarty are both in line to return for D.C. United in a crucial road match at the LA Galaxy on Friday (11 pm ET, Fox Soccer).

The pair didn’t make the 18-man roster in DC’s 3-2 win in Portland last Sunday, but trained all week and are expected to factor against LA.

One of the oldest rivalries in MLS kicks off the weekend on FOX Soccer as the LA Galaxy put their winning and shutout streaks on the line, entertaining D.C. United. The Galaxy have won four in a row, three in a row by 1-0 scorelines, after winning at New England last weekend. United are on the second game of a two-game Western swing, the first club to come away from Portland with any points after defeating the Timbers 3-2 last Sunday.

D.C. United ready to adapt, compete in LA

DC ready to adapt

After becoming the first team to win a league match in Portland, D.C. United will look to accomplish a similar feat Friday night when they take on the LA Galaxy (11 pm ET; FOX Soccer).

In six games at home, current point leaders LA have a 4-0-2 record on home turf and boast one of the league’s best defenses. However, the spacious field at the Home Depot Center will present a different challenge to that of the tight confines of Portland’s JELD-WEN Field.

United rebound from their April struggles with undefeated month
Consistent D benefits DC

At the end of April, D.C. United were reeling. The club had dropped three straight in all competitions, conceding 11 goals in the process. Sloppy errors and poor play made it resemble 2010 all over again.

But just as things appeared to be heading south, with a new month came vast improvement. Lineup shuffling ahead of a May 4 matchup with Seattle Sounders triggered a response, and DC went on to go unbeaten in four matches in May, posting a 2-0-2 record that culminated with Sunday’s win in Portland.
