WASHINGTON — After landing the creative attacking midfielder they’ve been looking for in Dwayne De Rosario, D.C. United made a slight tactical tweak to better accommodate their new weapon.

In the two games since acquiring the 33-year-old, DC have switched to a diamond midfield in place of the flat 4-4-2 that they have used in the past couple of seasons, with midfielder Clyde Simms (pictured above) playing in front of the back four, and De Rosario closer to the two starting forwards.

In the two games prior to the 1-0 win over archrivals New York, a young D.C. United side had seen four points evaporate in the two previous games, as they conceded late goals against Houston and Philadelphia at home.

Winless in their last five games, DC found themselves up a goal with under 30 minutes to play thanks to the heroics of new acquisition Dwayne De Rosario. It was familiar territory, but instead of another collapse, the defense held firm to pick up a huge win.

Dwayne De Rosario isn’t one to shy away from the big moments.

Playing the New York Red Bulls just under two weeks after being shipped away in exchange for Dax McCarty, the DC United midfielder reminded his old club what they sent away. He scored the game’s lone goal, leading his new team to a huge 1-0 road win Satuday at Red Bull Arena.

“It’s a great feeling,” De Rosario told over the phone. “But most importantly it was the game winner and we were able to come away with all three points.”
