The D.C. United Academy went 3-2-0 last weekend in their games against Continental FC Delco and Soccer Association of Columbia. While the U13s, U15s, U16s and U18s hosted Continental FC Delco at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, the U14s traveled and played Soccer Association of Columbia at Covenant Park in Columbia, Md., on Saturday.
D.C. United’s Academy was on the road this past weekend in Pennsylvania as the U13 and U15 teams participated in the Northeast Pre-Academy League Showcase. Both sides played a total of three matches which all counted towards their overall standings.
The U16s played in the East Regional Generation adidas Cup. This was their first regional qualifying event, and the second, and final regional event, will take place over 2015 Presidents Day weekend in Orlando, Fla.
D.C. United’s Youth Development is at the forefront of youth soccer development in the region. Since the Academy’s inception in 2007, United has signed seven Homegrown players to its First Team roster and successfully built a foundation of youth development through its Training Program. D.C. United’s Training Program provides training built on the Academy’s methodology and player development curriculum through various dynamic sessions involving both offensive and defensive topics.
Kyle Davis has been called in to the U.S. Under-14 Boys National Team training camp by U-14 Head Coach Brian Johnson. The camp will take place at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif., from Oct. 11-19.
This weekend, the D. C. United Academy teams went 4-1 this against local rival Bethesda Olney, while the U-12 Academy Team defeated MD Rush Montgomery Academy and tied VE Green Gunners.
D.C. United has announced its rosters for the 2014-2015 Academy teams. 123 players from the greater Washington, D.C. region were selected for the Black-and-Red’s Academy squads: 16 on the U-12 team, 22 on the U-13, 19 on the U-14, 21 on the U-15, 21 on the U-16 and 24 on the U-18 team roster.
D.C. United Academy coaches will travel abroad to observe the F.C. Internazionale youth academy during its preseason training in Trento, Italy, from Aug. 15-21. D.C. United and Inter share ownership and entered into a collaboration agreement in December 2013. A joint training session for the clubs’ senior teams took place at RFK Stadium last month.
A group of D.C. United Academy players born in 1999 and below will compete in the prestigious Macron Galway Cup in Galway, Ireland, from August 5-10 at the state-of-the-art facility at Drom Soccer Park. United will send 16 players and four coaches to represent the Academy in this exciting competition against other academies from across the world.
After a season that saw the D.C. United U-16 Academy make it to the playoffs, two standouts from the squad have earned end of the year awards from the United States Soccer Development Academy.
Midfielder Patrick Jean-Gilles and forward Owen Marshall were named to the Eastern Conference Best XI following the end of the 2014-15 season. Both players joined D.C. United’s Pre-Academy three years ago. Jean-Gilles, a success story from United’s affiliate program, spent one year with Arlington Soccer Club before rejoining the U-16s this season.
D.C. United has announced that Jeff Carroll has been named D.C. United Academy Under-14 Head Coach.
