With a pair of resounding wins against New Jersey Soccer Academy – a program run by U.S. soccer legend Tab Ramos  - D.C. United’s youth academy began its sixth year of USSDA play this past weekend.  The positive results were hopefully a harbinger of things to come, and also an early sign of progress towards one of the academy’s primary goals for 2012-2013.

D.C. United announced today that Academy product Suliaman Dainkeh has been called into the U-18 U.S. Men’s National Team camp in Mill, Netherlands. The camp will run from September 6th - 17th, with a match against the Netherlands on September 11th in Groesbeek, Netherlands and friendlies against U-18 club teams representing Feyenoord Rotterdam, Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge.

Sent on loan to the NASL’s Ft. Lauderdale Strikers at the
beginning of the season, Conor Shanosky was entering a pivotal moment in his
career.  For the first time since
turning professional in 2010, the Sterling, Virginia native would be relied
upon for first team minutes. 

Those minutes, however, were not guaranteed.

Washington, D.C. (August 14, 2012) – D.C. United’s Academy has begun its preparation for the upcoming USSDA season. Last week, a team made up of U-16 and U-18 players participated in the 2012 Generation adidas Cup in Seattle. Already back in Washington, the Black-and-Red will resume training this week as they look ahead to several friendly matches scheduled for Labor Day Weekend. The friendlies will take place at Morven Park in Leesburg, Va. and will include matchups against the Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew, Philadelphia Union, and New York Red Bulls.

Late summer reserve league matches can often be the brutal
definition of mundane. Sandwiched between make-or-break league affairs, reserve
contests lack the intensity of their weekend counterparts. 

But for five members of D.C. United’s Academy, Monday’s match
against New York was a rare opportunity to test themselves against
professionals – and potentially take another step in impressing club
management.
