D.C. United's U-18 Academy team saw their winning streak snapped this past Saturday with a 1-0 loss to FC Delco's U-18's in Radnor, PA.

A missed penalty kick by the U-18’s in the opening minute of the match and a converted FC Delco penalty kick in the 72nd minute proved to be the difference between the squads. A handball inside the box in the first minute of the match gave Patrick Foss (South Riding, Va.) an opportunity to put United up 1-0, but the FC Delco goalkeeper saved the ball to keep the scoreline even.

On Sunday, D.C. United's U-16 Academy team defeated Potomac's U-16's 4-1 at Long Bridge Park in Arlington, Va.

Gaining a rhythm of possession early and stymieing the opponents’ talented attacking corps with an organized backline, the U-16 team showed great discipline as well. Goals came from a Gerson Umana double – his opener a beautiful free kick from 25 yards and his second a pass from winger Julian Cummings – and a Christophe Koffi brace – his first a cross from Michael Monahan and his second a cross off of the post from Cummings.

Former Academy players in NCAA

About halfway through the 2012-13 NCAA season, the first year that MLS will graduate a class of homegrown players, several former members of D.C. United Academy teams are making significant contributions to their respective collegiate squads.

Uwem Etuk, a senior at West Virginia University, has tallied six assists this season, best (tied) among all players in the Mid-American Conference. Etuk’s Mountaineers currently sit in second place in their division, just behind No. 2 University of Akron.
