D.C. United’s U-18 and U-16 Academy teams both played two matches over the weekend, with neither team dropping a match and both improving their respective records in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) league.
Major League Soccer announced today the final roster of 15 talented young field players and three “Good Hands®” top goalkeeper - El Portero Allstate finalists, who will compete in the National Finals of Sueño MLS 2013 – Presented by Allstate. The field was set yesterday at the LA Galaxy tryouts, when the last six participants were selected by MLS and the LA Galaxy.
D.C. United U-15/16 Academy forward Gerson Umaña was named U.S. Soccer Development Academy Player of the Week. Umaña scored a hat trick last Saturday against FC DELCO— the 15-year-old found the net in the 15th, 55th, and 62nd minutes. Umaña’s second goal would ultimately win the game for the Black-and-Red, beating FC DELCO 5-3 and improving its record to 14-2-4. With 15 goals on the season thus far, Umaña has continued to develop as a player and impress his coaches.
D.C. United today announced that it will be holding tryouts for its newly formed U-12 Pre-Academy side, as well as its U-13 and U-15 Pre-Academy teams. The U-12 squad will serve as a feeder system for the U-14, U-16 and U-18 Academy teams and will ultimately carve a path for players to become part of D.C. United’s First Team. D.C.
Collin Martin, former D.C. United Academy standout and current Wake Forest Demon Deacon, was called into the United States U-20 Training Camp in Carson, Calif., from April 22-29 in preparation for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The D.C. United U-18s and U-16s both defeated regional rival FC DELCO over the weekend to improve their respective records in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) league. Additionaly, 16 D.C. United Academy and Pre-Academy players were invited to the U.S. Soccer Training Center in Germantown, Md., on April 17.
D.C. United and Northern Virginia Soccer Club (NVSC) – in conjunction with adidas – today announced an affiliate agreement, the fourth of its kind for D.C. United and a youth soccer club. Under the agreement, NVSC will be one of D.C. United’s primary sources in identifying and developing the top youth talent. United will share its coaching resources and will work with NVSC to follow its training curriculum and system of play. Top players in the NVSC system, identified by both D.C. United and NVSC, will have the opportunity to join the D.C.
D.C. United today announced that its tryout sessions will be held on May 15 and May 16 for the recently announced U-14 Academy team for interested players born on or after January 1, 1999. The U-14s, in its final campaign in the D.C. United’s Pre-Academy system, will now compete in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) league starting in Fall 2013 at the helm of Head Coach Jonathan Frias.
The D.C. United U-16s finished with a scoreless draw against Potomac this weekend, while the U-18s cruised to a 4-1 victory over Potomac’s U-18s. Additionally, U-14 Pre-Academy player Christopher Durkin (Glen Allen, Va.; Richmond Kickers) featured well in U.S. Club Soccer’s id2 Program Training Camp in Charleston, SC.
After last week’s bye, the D.C. United Academy U-18 and U-16 teams resumed play in the 2013 U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) season yesterday, as both sides traveled north the face the PA Classics (Pennsylvania).
