Washington, D.C. (September 9, 2013) – To open their respective 2013-14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) seasons, D.C. United’s U-18, U-16 and U-14 Academy teams took on regional rival Baltimore Bays Chelsea this past Saturday at Morven Park in Leesburg, Va. While the U-16s lost 2-1, the U-18s and U-14s both drew Baltimore 1-1.
Following a competitive Generation adidas Cup regional event this past weekend, the U-18, U-16 and U-14 D.C. United Academy teams will begin the 2013-14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) regular season Saturday, Sept. 7. This season marks the first time all three youth squads will play in the USSDA as the U-14 team, considered Pre-Academy in 2012-13, joins the U-16 and U-18 squads that have been members since the Academy’s inaugural season in 2007.
D.C. United today announced its rosters for the 2013-2014 Academy teams. Seventy-two players from the greater Washington, D.C. region were selected for the Black-and-Red’s Academy squads: 25 on the U-14 team, 23 on the U-16 side and 24 on the U-18 team roster.
D.C. United today announced that two members of D.C. United’s Academy U-16s team have been named to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) U-15/16 East Conference Starting XI for 2012-13. Additionally, the D.C. United U-23s ended its 2013 National Premier League Season (NPSL) with a 2-1 victory over CASL Elite.
D.C. United today announced, in collaboration with Beach FC, that its U-23 squad will hold a player showcase in Virginia Beach, Va., on Sunday, July 14 at Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. The event will also feature youth soccer clinic for ages U-7 to U-12. The clinic will include interactive elements straight from the D.C. United Academy training program and will offer an opportunity for local youth to take the field with top-tier D.C. United U-23 staff and players. Members of the public who wish to solely attend the game will be able to do so free of charge.
D.C. Also, United’s U-23s topped Chesterfield United FC 5-1 on Saturday in their latest National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) match.
After being signed in August 2010, Shanosky had been on loan with Harrisburg City, Fort Lauderdale and Richmond. Thirty-five appearances in total for the Sterling, Va. native who plays holding midfield and center back before his first MLS start.
