D.C. United Academy ready for 2011-2012 campaign

D.C. United’s Academy teams kickoff the U.S. Soccer Development Academy season this weekend with both the U-18 and U-16 teams in action. On Saturday, November 19, both sides are set to play against Seacoast United. On Sunday, November 20, the Black-and-Red take on Empire United. All four matches will take place at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md.
United’s U-14 and U-15 sides began their seasons last weekend against PA Classics. The U-14’s earned a 2-0 victory with goals from Owen Marshall and Cheick Traore. Graydon Hester and Andrew Ferman helped the U-15’s overcome a one-goal deficit, resulting in a 2-1 victory.
In early December, the Academy players head down to Sarasota, Fla. to kickoff the 2011 Winter Showcase, one of the most prestigious domestic youth development competitions. On December 3, the U-18 and U-16 teams will face Sporting Kansas City, followed by December 4 matches against Sockers FC. The Black-and-Red will round out the tournament on December 6 against Vardar SC Freiburg.
Several members of the Black-and-Red Academy have committed their futures to the college ranks. Damilola Adetola has decided to join Villanova, while Rafael Fagundo will continue his soccer career at Wake Forest. Ryan Harmouche and Edgar Zepeda have both committed to George Mason. Lastly, Peter Lee has decided to join Army.
