D.C. United acquires 2011 Supplemental Draft selection from LA

Washington, D.C. (January 11, 2011) – D.C. United announced today that the club has sent forward Adam Cristman to the LA Galaxy in exchange for a first round Supplemental Draft selection. With the 2011 MLS SuperDraft taking place on January 13 in Baltimore, the Supplemental Draft is set to occur via conference call five days later on January 18. In exchange for the four-year MLS veteran, United acquires the 16th overall pick in the Supplemental Draft.
“We would like to thank Adam for his time and contributions to D.C. United,” said General Manager Dave Kasper. “We wish him the best of luck in the future.”
The 2011 MLS SuperDraft will consist of three rounds, a decision made by the League Office in conjunction with MLS clubs, coaches, and players. This move takes into consideration the increasing number of selections in each round, brought on by the addition of multiple expansion clubs in recent years. The Supplemental Draft will also consist of three rounds, breaking up the amount of picks between these two events. The Supplemental Draft was discontinued by the League in 2009 and did not take place in 2010.
All previous trades that involved a fourth round pick in the SuperDraft will be honored, with those picks being converted into selections in the first round of the Supplemental Draft. Aside from the third overall pick and a second round selection in the MLS SuperDraft, United now has two first round choices in the Supplemental Draft.
Cristman leaves the Black-and-Red having spent one season with the club. The Virginia native appeared in 17 League games in 2010 (8 starts), tallying two goals and one assist. Selected by New England in the fourth round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, Cristman has scored 12 goals in 68 regular season matches throughout his career. Following two seasons with the Revolution, Cristman spent the 2009 campaign in Kansas City, but was limited to five appearances because of a foot injury. Cristman turned 26 on January 8.
