D.C. United’s Marc Burch undergoes successful foot surgery
WASHINGTON, DC (September 7, 2010) – D.C. United announced today that defender Marc Burch underwent successful season-ending surgery on his right foot. Burch had a sesmamoidectomy to repair damage suffered on September 1 in the U.S. Open Cup semifinal against the Columbus Crew. On that night Burch re-aggravated an injury suffered in late February that kept the fullback out for the majority of the 2010 MLS campaign – an injury that also required surgery. Both procedures were performed by Dr. Lew Schon of Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Md.
In 2010 Burch has played sparingly, making only four appearances (four starts) due to injury. In total the defender registered 360 minutes on the pitch for the Black-and-Red. Since joining United from Columbus in 2007, Burch has been a valuable asset to the club’s backline.
Burch was a consistent starter for United in 2009, collecting a goal and two assists throughout the course of the campaign. He played in 26 League matches (25 starts) and totaled over 2,100 minutes of play. Though he missed nearly a month late in the season with an ankle injury, Burch appeared in 32 games (30 starts) in all competitions.
