Make-A-Wish Recipient Spencer meets D.C. United

In partnership with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, local wish kid Spencer served as United’s honorary captain of the match against Columbus Crew SC. Nine-year-old Spencer is from Arlington, VA and has bravely battled leukemia, enduring countless hours of treatment, doctors’ visits and time in the hospital. In remission now, Spencer  helped to lead the team out on the field and was honored during halftime of the match.

Wednesday’s initiative comes in part with a league-wide campaign to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, as September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Read more about MLS' efforts to fight the disease at mlssoccer.com/mlsworks.
