D.C. United and Wells Fargo raise money for DC SCORES

D.C. United and Wells Fargo are pleased to announce Saves for DC SCORES, a program that launched last season and is continuing in 2016.  Through this initiative, Wells Fargo will donate $100 to United’s charitable partner DC SCORES for every save by a D.C. United goalkeeper.  The number of saves throughout the MLS regular season will be tracked on dcunited.com and promoted across the team’s social media outlets.  Wells Fargo will present a check for the final donation total during the last D.C. United regular season home match on Sunday, October 16 vs. New York City FC.

The funds raised through Saves for DC SCORES will supplement the non-profit’s program costs throughout the year, providing free after-school soccer training programs to students in the Washington D.C. area.  The donation will benefit over 2,000 children across the District who participate in DC SCORES’ after-school program.

“Through the Saves for DC SCORES program we are pleased to continue supporting our communities by further encouraging young fans to live a healthy and active lifestyle,” Victor Melara, United's director of community relations, said. “This continued partnership with Wells Fargo demonstrates the power of sports and the impact it can make in our community”.

As the official bank of Major League Soccer and presenting sponsor for the league’s annual MLS WORKS Community MVP Contest, Wells Fargo is able to connect with local communities and soccer fans across the U.S. The company is also an official sponsor of D.C. United and proudly supports the club’s efforts to improve the lives of local children through DC SCORES.

About DC SCORES

DC SCORES tackles the many very real impacts of a life of poverty on a child: a lack of extracurricular enrichment, a lack of adult mentors, and a lack of fitness opportunities. DC SCORES’ school-based, team-based, whole child programming — delivered through free after-school programs and summer camps facilitated by trained youth development professionals — intentionally integrates soccer, poetry, and service-learning to help low-income 3rd-8th graders throughout the District build physical fitness, find their voice, improve their literacy, increase school engagement, and strengthen ties to their community. Founded in 1994, DC SCORES began spinning off affiliate sites around the country leading to the creation of America SCORES. To date, 14 affiliates are connected by the national organization that serves more than 10,000 at-risk children annually. Learn more at DCSCORES.org
