WASHINGTON (Oct. 7, 2015) – D.C. United players and staff are unveiling a new, state-of-the-art mini-pitch located at Capital City Public Charter School at 100 Peabody Street NW in partnership with adidas, MLS WORKS, Southern New Hampshire University and the U.S. Soccer Foundation. On Thursday, Oct. 15, a ceremonial first kick will take place with executives and local dignitaries along with D.C. United players and Head Coach Ben Olsen.

Following the official dedication, local participants in the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success  program and D.C. United players will participate in a small-sided match on the new pitch. Soccer for Success is the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s free afterschool program that uses soccer as a tool to combat children’s health issues and juvenile delinquency. Additionally, Southern New Hampshire University representatives will recognize a deserving community member by awarding a scholarship for continuing education.

The new mini-pitch is part of a commitment by adidas, MLS WORKS, Southern New Hampshire University and the U.S. Soccer Foundation to build 20 mini-pitches in underserved communities across North America. Each new mini-pitch will offer children in these communities a safe place to play, while providing a soccer environment that encourages unstructured play within local communities, supporting the continued growth of the game.
