Soccer for Success Tournament at RFK Stadium

The D.C. United Foundation’s annual United Soccer Club Spring Classic Youth Soccer Tournament took place at RFK Stadium on Saturday, June 13. This year's event marks the first time that the tournament occurred on the game field. The tournament showcased and celebrated 16 teams who participated in the 12-week United Soccer Club 2015 spring program.
In addition to the several hundred kids who played in the tournament-style matches and took part in other fun activities, there were countless families, coaches, and volunteers who, despite the heat, gathered together to support the young boys and girls from across the District and Maryland.
The youths played a round-robin schedule and then enjoyed a healthy meal, highlighting the main goal of the United Soccer Club, which is to teach the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and proper nutrition. Subway and INOVA Health provided free sandwiches and health tips to the youth in attendance. D.C.
United goalkeeper Travis Worra also took part, meeting and taking pictures with youth players and presenting each athlete with a trophy recognizing their participation in the spring program. Volunteers from Goldman Sachs and D.C. United staff members also gave their time to make the tournament possible.
