This is a historic moment for Major League Soccer, as D.C. United, one of our charter clubs, will soon have a terrific venue to celebrate the beautiful game in one of America's most passionate soccer markets."
Why is it important to Major League Soccer that each team has its own soccer-specific stadium?
“Soccer specific stadiums provide our clubs, their players and fans with a true home that establishes a permanent foundation for the sport. As importantly, these stadiums provide young players throughout the United States and Canada the opportunity to dream about playing on the same field their hometown MLS clubs compete on every day.
“One of the real legacies of Major League Soccer is that our owners have built a foundation for the sport with soccer stadiums that has helped transform the sport in the United States and Canada.
"These stadiums have made a difference in our local communities, and we certainly believe the new D.C. United Stadium will provide an enormous community benefit to the Buzzard Point neighborhood.”
