D.C. United celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

D.C. United is proudly celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, from Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, with participation in a series of events in the District of Columbia.

Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the D.C. Office of Latino Affairs Hispanic Youthfest. D.C. United midfielder/forward David Estrada was on hand at the festival’s one-day youth soccer tournament at Columbia Heights Education Center to talk to fans and cheer on the participants.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, D.C. United will take part in D.C.’s largest Latino festival, Fiesta DC, which expects to attract tens of thousands of people to downtown, with a parade on Pennsylvania Ave., and a festival on Constitution Ave. As an official sponsor of the festival, D.C. United will have a branded booth and will host a ticket raffle and provide giveaways to participants.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools will host a Hispanic Heritage Month College and Career Awareness Day. D.C. United will participate, sharing college and career experiences with students in an effort to motivate them to work hard and achieve college and career goals. Cesar Chavez PCS, which is focused on Public Policy, serves more than 1,400 middle and high school students in Washington, D.C.

Festivities will culminate with a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Night presented by AT&T and Shoppers at D.C. United’s regular season match against the Philadelphia Union on Sept. 27 at RFK Stadium. The afternoon will feature Latin American-themed entertainment and game elements including: Latin music provided by El Zol in RFK’s Lot 8 along with a halftime Zumba performance presented by Results Gym. El Zol radio personalities Pedro Biaggi, Patricia De Lima and Chepe will be on hand to interact with fans.

Also at the Sept. 27 match, D.C. United will host a clothing drive benefiting Mary’s Center, a community-based organization that provides health care, education and social services to nearly 40,000 individuals in the entire DC metropolitan region. Individuals who donate four or more items will receive a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher, redeemable for that day's match or any other MLS regular season home game.
