United Soccer Club hosts Spring Classic

D.C. United has announced the culmination of its latest United Soccer Club season with the Spring Classic tournament. The event, hosted by United for D.C., the non-profit arm of D.C. United, will take place at the RFK Stadium Training Field on Saturday, June 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The tournament concludes the latest free, 12-week soccer program for nearly 700 elementary and middle school-aged children across 13 locations in the District of Columbia. Founded in 2006, United Soccer Club gives students access to training and coaching as well as an understanding of the benefits of living an active and nutritious lifestyle. The Spring Classic will give the students an opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned.

“Our students have worked hard all season, and it all builds to this one-day event,” said Victor Melara, D.C. United Director of Community Relations. “The Spring Classic brings together our participants from across the city and allows them to show off their skills to their parents, many of whom haven’t had the opportunity during the week.”

As part of United Soccer Club, students participate in three 90-minute afterschool sessions each week led by local coaches. The practices include skill work, team drills and scrimmages.

Volunteers are still needed for the tournament. If you are interested in helping or receiving more information regarding the event, please contact United Soccer Club Program Manager Pharis Owens at powens@dcunited.com.
