D.C. United today announced that the club has selected Fabian Espindola and Nana Attakora in the Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft. Both players are currently out of contract and negotiations will commence to bring the players to the club.

Espindola signed with Real Salt Lake on Aug. 17, 2007, and spent his first six seasons with the MLS side, playing in 125 games (104 starts) and netting 35 goals while recording 17 assists. After the 2012 season, he was traded to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for allocation money along with former teammate Jamison Olave. In the 2013 season, the Argentinean striker played in 28 games (23 starts) for the Red Bulls and recorded nine goals and two assists en route to leading the team to the best record in MLS.

Attakora began his professional career in 2007 with Toronto FC where he appeared in five Reserve League games during his first season. In 2008, the Canadian Intenational saw action in five first team matches before breaking onto the scene in 2009 with 20 games played (19 starts) while recording two goals and four assists. In his last two years in Toronto, the defender appeared in 31 games (28 starts) and scored one goal before moving to the San Jose Earthquakes in 2011. In his two seasons with the Earthquakes, 2011 and 2013, he appeared in 14 games (12 starts) with one assist.

The defender has represented Canada at the U-16, U-17, U-19, U-20, U-23 and senior national team level. Named the Canadian U-20 Player of the year in 2008 and 2009, the defender got his first senior national team cap in 2010 in a friendly match against Jamaica on Jan. 31. Since then, he has gone on to represent his country a total of five times.
