Dwayne De Rosario stepping up and giving back

Kicks for Kids provides thousands of underserved youth throughout the Greater Washington, D.C. region with an unforgettable game-day experience each season. Through Kicks for Kids, United for D.C. provides non-profits and other community-based organizations with access to free game tickets, meal vouchers, t-shirts and promotional items, as well as special seating and post-game autographs.

Typically, United for D.C. relies on the support of corporate sponsors and private foundations to fund Kicks for Kids. This year, one of the most decorated players in MLS history stepped up, wanting to make a difference in these kids’ lives. Now in his third season with United, Dwayne DeRosario has truly embraced United for D.C. and particularly the Kicks for Kids program!

“When approached with the opportunity to partner with United for D.C. and help bring kids from at risk areas of the city to RFK to watch us play, I was very excited to help. I was raised in a challenging environment, and I had to work extremely hard to pursue my dream. If I can impact at least one kid’s life, my mission has been accomplished,” said De Rosario.

The Black-and-Red captain has donated $10,000 to United for D.C., and through DeRo’s stars, will bring 500 kids to games throughout the 2013 season. In addition, De Rosario personally invites groups to field level after each game to meet each individual kid, speak with them, take photos and sign autographs.

“I feel, as a pro athlete and role model, it’s very important to engage in the local community, especially when it comes to children and, more importantly, children in need," he explained. "Having worked with many charitable organizations, as well as my own, I take great pleasure in giving back.”
