D.C. United today announced that the club has signed 23-year-old left fullback Dennis Iapichino. Per club and League policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. Iapichino will be available for selection this Saturday when the Black-and-Red takes on his former side, the Montreal Impact (7 p.m. ET; CSN), at Stade Saputo.
“We are pleased to be adding a quality left back in Dennis,” said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He possesses very good technical ability and is a smart player tactically. We look forward to having him as a part of United.”
Most recently with the Montreal Impact, the 23-year-old made 16 total appearances with the First Team from 2012-13. Prior to joining the Impact, Iapichino featured for FC Lugano (Switzerland) from 2010-12, playing 45 regular-season matches and four Swiss Cup games in total. From 2009-10, the defender did a loan spell with F.C. Biel-Bienne (Switzerland) of the Challenge League, where he appeared in 12 matches. The Switzerland native began his career in 2008 with Swiss powerhouse FC Basel, featuring in 29 games with the side’s U-21 team and tallying one goal. On the international level, Iapichino has participated in six friendlies with the Swiss U-20 National Team, all occurring in 2010.
