VW Keys to the Match: D.C. United vs New England

James Riley vs Revs

D.C. United hosts Eastern Conference foe the New England Revolution, facing the Revs for the third time this season. In June, United tied New England 0-0 on their home turf, then beat the side in the quarterfinals of U.S. Open Cup 3-1. Ahead of the clash at RFK, here are you VW Keys to the Match.

Capitalize on Opportunities
Against the Fire last weekend, D.C. United had eights shots, six corner kicks and 19 open play crosses. The attackers are getting forward and getting themselves into dangerous places, but as a team, United has been unable to convert opportunity into goals. DCU has to take advantage of their looks at goal against the Revs.

Stay United Defensively
Diego Fagundez has found the net six times and assisted on four tallies, while Kelyn Rowe has assisted six times thus far in 2013. These two youngsters are dynamic and crafty on the ball. DCU will need to keep themselves organized and compact defensively, keeping the Revs’ playmakers in front of them, and making sure to close them down quickly.

Fight for the Fans
United will be playing in front of a reenergized crowd. The reaction to the announcement of a future stadium was extremely positive, causing the fans’ passion for DCU to come out in full effect. The supporters section should be rocking tomorrow; the Black-and-Red has to use that energy and fight tooth and nail to get a result in front of its home crowd.
