D.C. United defender/midfielder Alain Rochat transferred to Swiss side BSC Young Boys

D.C. United today announced that Alain Rochat has been transferred to BSC Young Boys (Switzerland), returning the defender/midfielder home to feature for the Swiss Super League powerhouse. Rochat was acquired by United from Vancouver Whitecaps FC on June 6 in exchange for a natural second-round selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and a conditional pick for 2016. Per team and League policy, the financial details of this deal were not disclosed.


“We would like to thank Alain for his time with the club,” said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He is a quality player and person. While this move provides substantial resources to assist in continued development of our roster, it also allowed us to honor the player's wish to return home to play professionally.”


Rochat made five appearances (four starts) for the Black-and-Red, logging 404 minutes. Throughout his MLS career, the Swiss international played 72 games (69) starts, tallying five goals and adding three assists. Before arriving stateside, Rochat featured for several European clubs. The 30-year-old started his professional career with Yverdon Sport FC (Switzerland) 1999, moving to BSC Young Boys in 2002 and later played for Stade Rennais F.C. (France) from 2005-06 and FC Zürich (Switzerland) from 2006-11.
