Spotlight: Joe Willis

Joe Willis Solo

Joe Willis was spectacular tonight. The talented goalkeeper made his presence known in the first half, pulling a Brad Evans header right out of the upper 90 to keep D.C. United and the Seattle Sounders even at zero. Willis came up big again in the 63rd minute, saving a point-blank effort from Eddie Johnson, denying the Sounders another goal.

The 24-year-old netminder has impressed in Open Cup play this season as well, seeing the Black-and-Red to three victories in the tournament and advancing DCU to the semifinals in August. On Sunday, United will face the Rapids in Colorado - somewhere Willis should feel right at home. The young goalkeeper played for the University of Denver from 2006-10, red shirting his sophomore campaign.
