VW Keys to the Match: D.C. United vs San Jose Earthquakes

Perry Kitchen - 2012

When the Earthquakes come to town this Saturday, the Black-and-Red's defense will have their hands full, but with an organized offense they can keep the 'Quakes on their toes. Here are your VW Keys to the Match:

Mind Gordon, Lenhart, and Wondo
The trio of forwards that San Jose is likely to play are a force to be reckoned with. Lenhart plays a uniquely physical game, and at 6'3", Gordon is a machine in the air. DCU should be mindful of the two, combined with the streaking runs of their leading goal scorer, Wondolowski.
Test the defense and the keeper
Thus far in 2013, the 'Quakes have conceeded 24 goals. They've struggled against teams with organized offense, and with leaders in the center of the pitch like Perry Kitchen, the Black-and-Red should exploit the holes.
Maintain Organization
Just last week, San Jose parted ways with their manager Frank Yallop, a former United assistant. Terms of his departure were not clear, but changes at the helm of any team can cause a disturbance in the formation and organization of the players on the field. If DCU can keep composure and shape, the squad can take advantage of the changes.
