D.C. United hit the training field this morning after having yesterday off. The team is looking ahead, preparing to host Sporting Kansas City and focusing on the positives. The Black-and-Red worked hard through passing sequences, looked sharp through possession and battled hard during a small-sided scrimmage.
Two New Faces
Two trialists have joined United for this week’s training sessions. Forward Akpo Sodje and Defender Frankie Simek, who has made five appearances with the United States Men’s National Team, trained with the Black-and-Red today, getting some quality touches on the ball in their first outing.
“We’re always looking to improve the roster,” said D.C. United Scouting Coordinator Kurt Morsink. “It’s important to bring in new talent to give the coaches a good look at them live.”
Kansas City Will Be Without Some Stars
Looking ahead, Sporting Kansas City will be without key players for Sunday’s match. Aurelien Collin and Oriol Rosell have both accumulated five yellow cards and will each serve a one-game suspension. Collin, a 2012 MLS Defender of the Year Finalist and an MLS All-Star, has scored two goals thus far in 2013 and has registered one assist. Rosell, a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia Academy, has also added to the score sheet, notching one goal and one assist. Tickets still available for Sunday's match.
Open Cup Play Begins

There will be 18 games tonight, and the winners move on to the Second Round next week. MLS teams will join in the Third Round, which will take place on May 28.
