Spotlight: Dwayne De Rosario

Dwayne De Rosario 2013

Last season, D.C United captain Dwayne De Rosario joined an elite group of goal scorers when he notched his 100th career MLS goal, and last night, he added to his resume. The talented midfielder scored his 101st goal in dramatic fashion against FC Dallas, tying MLS great Taylor Twellman for 6th most goals all time.

After being fouled right outside the penalty area in the 43rd minute, De Rosario stepped up to take the free kick awarded to United. Midfielders Kyle Porter and Nick DeLeon stood on either side of the ball and teed up De Rosario’s shot perfectly. The veteran goalscorerer approached the ball with composure and bent it passed a diving Chris Seitz, burying it into the lower right hand corner. De Rosario’s equalizer came just before halftime, shifting the momentum in favor of the Black-and-Red. Though a hard fought battle, FC Dallas proved resilient, scoring the game winner in the 70th minute.

“I was dying to get that goal,” said De Rosario. “(It was) the first goal of the year for me, so that’s always a good thing.”

The captain continued by complimenting his teammates, acknowledging the heart and effort evident on the field last night.

“You give up a goal and we could have easily put our heads down, especially from recent results.” De Rosario stated. “But, we bounced back.  The way we played… We were unlucky to hit the post, but we showed some resilience and that’s a plus going forward.”
