D.C. United's Development Academy system is full of bright young athletes who are working hard to play at the top level of youth soccer in America. One such star is Steven Gandy, a defender on the U-16's. Gandy joined the D.C. United pre-academy 14's and 15's before moving up to the U-16's in his third year with the club.
The 5'8", Gainesville, Virginia native typically fills the center back role with the U-16's and he was recently selected to play in the U.S. Soccer Academy Showcase Select Game in Sarasota, Florida where he started and played the full 90 minutes.
As part of the US Soccer Development Academy system, D.C. United's Academy teams and training programs are designed to find and develop the top players in the Washington region. Our coaches and staff emphasize playing attractive, possession-oriented soccer. The ultimate goal is to prepare players for the club's First Team or the nation's top university teams.
