Defender Dejan Jakovic has been named to the Canadian World Cup qualifying roster for a home matchup in Toronto against Cuba on October 12 and an away matchup with Honduras on October 16 in San Pedro Sula.
Jakovic was previously called up with fellow D.C. United teammate, Dwayne De Rosario, for Canada’s home and away World Cup qualifying matches against Panama in early September.
After recovering from two early season injuries, Jakovic has become a mainstay in the Black-and-Red back four – playing in 19 games with 17 starts and a goal to his name. Although he did not see any playing time during the World Cup qualifying matches against Panama, Jakovic played the full 90 minutes in the Canadian defense that shut out Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 during a friendly on August 15.
The Black-and-Red defender will not miss any League matches, as he joins the Canadian National team from October 7 to 17.
